Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining

Question: Discuss about the Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining. Answer: Introduction The main aim of this study is to prepare a career goal by setting up your LinkedIn profile ready for networking. The assignment firmly focuses on analyzing the brief history of LinkedIn profile including its growth and project growth. Advantages of using LinkedIn profile for the current career stage also discusses with examples. LinkedIn is a social networking service, which is business and employment oriented, and it operates via the website. LinkedIn have more than 467 million accounts and it allows the workers and employee to create profile and contact each other for building a strong professional relationship in social media. The users are able to invite anyone for getting connected and build trust with the service users (Walker, 2014). The main cause of popularity of LinkedIn is the unique strategy and acquisition by Microsoft and integration of LinkedIn with the office product suite and help better integration for the professional workers. Growth and Projected Growth of LinkedIn LinkedIn was founded in 28 December 2002 and launched on May 5, 2003. The growth of the LinkedIn was slow and most of its revenue comes from the selling the information to the recruiters and the sales professionals. LinkedIn faced many legal issues for automatically sending invitation to the email address without any permission. The members of LinkedIn increased and the growth rate is increasing at two new members per second. The projected growth rate is expected and the implementation of the security technology would make it a strong contender in the social media network. External third party application has been added with LinkedIn that helps benefits the site to build a second-degree connection and search more specifically the users connected (Linkedin.com, 2017). The third-party application can also help the user to find job according to the profile and recommend suggestion for new friends regarding the professional career chosen by the user. Different company profiles can be followed by the user for finding vacancy in the company and apply for jobs. The photo of the user can be posted for quick verification or identification of the user. Social greetings and messages can be posted to congratulate other users and see the visitors of the profile page. Advantages of using LinkedIn On consideration of the advantages that associating with experts on LinkedIn brings, understudies can never disregard this long range informal communication stage. Organizing and creating an account on LinkedIn ought to start as ahead of schedule as could reasonably be expected (Russell, 2013). LinkedIn can help the understudy to discover employments when they move on from school. However, college students spend very little time on this professional social networking platform, as compared to the time spent on other popular social networking websites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Some of the advantages of using LinkedIn that a student can get benefit are as follows: Getting email alert regarding the job: A profile of the student is required to be created on the LinkedIn that would help the user to get email notification and alerts for recommended jobs. The created profile should be based on the resume and the choice of industry or job preferred by the student (Crant, 2015). The jobseeker or the student can see notification of the homepage as they log in into the LinkedIn account. Connecting with the professionals who have already created their account: There are large numbers of professionals who have LinkedIn accounts and they can be sent invitation for chatting and get more knowledge about their industry. The co-workers, colleagues and classmates can also be connected from the LinkedIn platform and the email list of the user can also be imported for finding out the LinkedIn users and communicating with them. Conducting research on company: It is the biggest benefit of LinkedIn that the job seeker can search company pages the targeted employers. The student can visit different company pages for conducting a research on the company and prepared himself or herself for the hiring process (Utz, 2016). Researching on the company would help the jobseeker to be in front of the competitive position and increase the chances of employment. Reason of Not Using LinkedIn Many people and business are not using LinkedIn and face trouble in using the site and the reasons are as follows: It is laborious and users find it hard to use: The user interface of LinkedIn is not user-friendly when compared with Facebook. The people who want to publish media and article for promotion of their business page finds it easy to use Facebook, whereas LinkedIn is time consuming and there are lots of hidden things that annoys the user (Huston, 2013). The user needs to filter the content for meaningfully curate the content that he sees. The account is inundated with spams and useless update: There are some users that use LinkedIn unethically for spamming others. The content feed option of LinkedIn is filled with poorly written post and unnecessary connection updates that are not useful for the users. There are lots of promotion content and filler that are posted by the user which is not useful to anyone. The user sometimes unintentionally gets multiple profiles: A close attention is required to be paid when operating the LinkedIn account and lack of attention can cause creation of multiple LinkedIn account (Xia, Guha Muthukrishnan, 2016). If the user has multiple user email id it can be linked with the LinkedIn account and the users finds it difficult to delete the duplicate profile created by mistake. The issues cannot be solved faster as the expectation of the users: There is a long list of complaint for the LinkedIn site but the problem is not solved fast enough. The help desk option of the LinkedIn profile takes more time to respond and the use faced by the user is not solved immediately and it solved there is no guarantee that the answer would make sense. Common Mistakes People Make Developing Their Profile The three common mistakes that the people makes while developing their profile are as follows: Waiting for development of the account unit the person is unemployed: if any person is looking for a job, LinkedIn account can be useful but some people are afraid of creating their profile. The people have the perception that creation of a Linked In account would make the colleagues or co-workers to think that the person is intended to leave the job (Kim, Kim Nam, 2014). But in reality, it takes time to build a good profile and network and the best time to develop the profile is when the person is employed. The person can contact with the existing connections and can send more connection request for building a good profile for searching a new job. Using the right keyword: the recruiter and the hiring manager use the search function of the LinkedIn for finding the most appropriate candidate suited for the company. The keywords must be present on the LinkedIn profile for highlighting the account and list the profile when the hiring company searches using those keywords. Using fake information on the profile: A few people think about whether they can "fudge" certain points of interest on their LinkedIn profile whether it is a past position or degree they never had, an aptitude that they truly don't have, or a reference they never met. With LinkedIn, everything is recorded and associated (Zide, Elman Shahani-Denning, 2014). Selection representatives or contracting directors utilize LinkedIn to contact potential references regardless of the possibility that the client does not give them, to check whether the individual worked at an organization he lists on his profile. If the user lists a skill on the profile, then he might be questioned about the skill. Piece of Advice to Best Leverage LinkedIn Account The three advices provided for the LinkedIn users to best advantage the LinkedIn account are as follows: Addition of a good profile picture: LinkedIn is different from the other social media sites and the only one photo should be posted for the profile picture. It should be noted that Facebook is used for sharing pictures and Linked is used for sharing the professional identity of the user (Wu et al., 2014). The photo posted should be professional looking because an unflattering picture imposes negative effect on the profile and the network activity. Not sending connection request to everyone: The LinkedIn network of the user must be expanded and for this, the user should not send request blindly to anyone who has least interest. If the user tries to send large amount of connection request the account may be suspended or deleted (Agarwal et al., 2014). If the request is sent to an unknown person an introduction should be used that explains the motivation of the connection request. If most of the people chose the option I dont Know this person, then the account of the user may get blocked. Updating the profile at a regular interval of time: Bad impression may be created if the profile is not updated for years or putting no status on the profile. LinkedIn is not designed for updating the profile constantly but it needs to be updated according to the profile of the student. The position of the student is needed to be added and if any working experience is, available it should be added (Quinton Wilson, 2016). If the student has any honorable area or any unique achievement, it can also be added to the LinkedIn profile. The status update function can be used for letting people know about the professional goals and objectives of the student and relevant information must be shared. The activity can be shown by commenting on the status of the people and participating in LinkedIn groups. Conclusion From the above analysis, it is identified that LinkedIn is a commonly used and very much effective social network for the people for career growth. Using LinkedIn profile, people can able to get job alert in their specified field. In addition, people can able to get in touch with the high-profile businessman or people to get advice from them. However, it has been analyzed that for greater career growth, people have to update their resume on regular basis and send connection request to other needed. Strategic Information Systems Management †Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Strategic Information Systems Management? Answer: Introduction The foundation of manufacturing business has been temperamental and is very unpredictable because of challenging business environment. As the competition is increasing day by day, it is becoming threat to the survival of business. Hence, the strategic planning become necessary in order to get the result. Management Information Systems (MIS) is the main element that encourage as well as achieve effective leadership process in an association. This paper analyze the degree by which administration data frameworks actualized influence effective vital intending to process of automobile industry. It is necessary for the business in this competitive environment, to implement some necessary elements like management information system for achieving adequacy of the organization. MIS can be defined as the imperative component for designing as well as implementing the strategies. In this paper, I have taken the automobile industry Australian Motor Industries that needs to implement Financial SAP ERP due to the complication in the processes of the industry. (Bogabol, A., O., A. Dr. Musadieq, M., A., 2014). SAP Financial ERP consists of full integrated tools set that are used to automate as well as to manage all the financial and accounting processes of the automobile industry. Its financial activities includes ledgers, inventory management, and receivable as well as payable accounts. It will help to automatically calculate tax like sales tax, value added tax or any additional tax and will manage all the different currencies calculations. This ERP will help to manage all cash flow, will monitor budget and also it will help to calculate revenue as well as expenses in very easy steps. Hence, it will help to create balance sheet in easy processing. This ERP is very much user friendly. It will also help to monitor all the processes of finances whether it is cheque payment, credit card payment or cash payment. (SAP Business One, 2007). Organization Structure of Australian Motor Industries Australian Motor Industry is a pioneer in the Australian car industry as well as it adds to the economy of Australia through direct or indirect business, purchasing, the venture investment as well as to maintain the revenue. The automobile industry has its distribution branch offices that are spread in all territory Australian states. The industry's fundamental mission is to manufacture the top automobile products as well as should be top in its services to the customers, community as well as working environment. The organization has a number of employees who works in its branch offices and the supplier network. In order to advance a developing manageable business, they endeavor to be useful for the earth as well as the society. The main stakeholders they include are suppliers as well as distributors. Their long term relationship with them is the reason for success. The main problem they are focusing is lack of accounting processes. They are required to implement MIS that can help to centralize their accounting data of all the distribution centers. For this I have selected SAP Financial ERP that can help them to centralize all the processes. (Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited, 2008). Operational Problems With the absence of ERP, the manufacturer lack the perceivability to the inventory, they mainly face the problems of either less inventory whenever required or delivering excessively stock and in this manner diminishing revenue with the increase in its expenses to distribution center additional materials. If the required stock is not present in the warehouse, it can make the wasteful aspects in the stockroom which helps to moderate its operations and also makes the expenses. (Blanchard, D., 2013). To accomplish consistence with government directions, manufacturers must have the capacity to follow each segment inside their individual items to seclude issues rapidly and with pinpoint accuracy. With the absence of ERP, they precisely track singular receptacles, containers, as well as packages as they course through the assembling procedure and the distribution chain. The capacity to oversee production quality is main point to be considered to car producers. The automobile industry is lacking to track ongoing information on all parts of assembling and supply during manufacturing, and to store the information in documents for reviews or future reference. Their procedure of dealing with all records on papers is moderate. They are also unable to maintain and track their financial and accounting information on papers. They are unable to manage changing tax rates. It is very difficult to keep the track of history like which tool or raw material is used to make a particular type of car. (Plex, 2014). Advantages of Implementing SAP Financial ERP in Automobile Industry Considering the mission of Australian Motor Industry, controllership may enhance its business viability and operational productivity using IT. The execution and the utilization of ERP frameworks describes the adjustment in connection to past advancements, as business forms are related by an automated flow of work and a solitary database. ERP frameworks force their rationale on the procedure, the culture of the industry as well as on the association of the organization; as their plan mirrors various theories that are related to the various processes of the association and they are produced to demonstrate great business processes and generate high revenue. The adjustments in the procedures and in the culture of the association are a part of the intrigue processes in ERP frameworks. (Ebner, G. Buvat, J., 2013). Controllership is an authoritative region in automobile industry. ERP helps managers to improve the decision making process in a very efficient way. Taking care of control demand requires data innovation. Hence we can say that by implementing ERP, the industry may add to and impact Controllership capacities in their processes. The implementation of ERP for the motor industry is appropriate when they are looking for the advantages of integrating and great practices for their data frameworks that also includes various functionalities. It will help to advance data integration over the association, for the most part created progressively, that is of top quality and without any type of irregularities, with regularized systems. ERP frameworks prompt the institutionalization of schedules and procedures and take into consideration the amendment of procedures through great models, tried and working in various automobile organizations. (Lira, A., M., D. Parisi, C., 2012). Industry Challenges for the Implementation Process Implementation of an ERP framework is greatly challenging as it includes redesigning of all the processes, changing observation as individuals approach their work. The good thing will be first the inefficient processes should be known and then they must try to make processes better. (Dr. Conteh, N., Y. Akhtar, M., J., 2015). By implementing ERP frameworks ordinarily prompts incorporation of information, which has the impact of incorporating proprietorship. The implementation of ERP is able to change power in the associations, generally supporting central organization to the detriment of auxiliaries. The inspiration to embrace ERP frameworks was frequently financial as well as accounting based. Producers are additionally persuaded by a want to supplant MRP frameworks, keeping in mind the end goal to support complex operations including various plants, providers and for the situation of multinational operations, managing various currencies. Demand for the advancement of software engineers is low whereas it has higher demand of the user involvement. (Soltanzadeh, J. Khoshsirat, M., 2012). System Flow Chart of Sales Procedure Contingent upon the request, that client demand can be naturally changed over into an objective report such as quote, request, or receipt. An email with some tracking number which is automatically generated can be sent physically or consequently. This tracking number will be helpful for the follow up for a particular customer. This tracking number can be helpful in updating the account status of the customer like last sales made on which date, due payments etc. Client maintenance is a urgent mission for the automobile industry. This SAP ERP frameworks helps in emailing, generates sales requests to follow up. The adequacy of promoting efforts can be measured by the income or gross benefit created for this by connecting each archive like Receipt or Order to the pertinent crusade during creation of invoice. This information can help in reporting. The process of pre-sales helps to follow other sales activities before the order like it helps to generate quote for specific model. It will help to meet unique customer's requirements. The ledger which is generated on monthly basis will help to control financial activities. This ledger details will be linked with accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll as well as order costing functions that are parts of sub ledgers. (Shukla, S., 2017). Various Control Problems Operational risk can be defined as various loss coming about because of lacking or failed interior procedures, individuals or frameworks, or from outside happening. It incorporates notoriety and distribution office related with a bank's business practices or market direct. It likewise incorporates the danger of neglecting to agree to material laws, directions, Regulatory Administrative Actions or bank's approaches. (Raman, R., 204). The main operating risk in the implementation of ERP is the lack of the contribution from its cross-utilitarian areas. Because of the optional idea of testing, numerous directors reduce the testing to facilitate or meet the "go-live" date. Broad testing guarantees less costs for maintenance during the post "go-live" period. The other risks are related with information change as well as the validating insufficiency of organizing the time and required resources for mapping MIS. In order to manage the change programs, organizations ought to altogether monitor the processes and they must proactively asses the risks. Administrators are required to alter the framework until the point when it pushes back the schedules and it leads to increase in the implementation expenses. Numerous associations do not consider security seriously user access so as to minimize the costs that are identified with the redesigning of process. This will make the pointless isolation of obligations. Hence, security end user access ought to be driven by isolation of obligations and access decides that are endorsed by internal as well as external auditor. (ERM Initiative faculty, 2014). Accounting Software Package Various transactions in SAP Financial ERP automatically locates various journal entries. Eg: a products receipt is automatically generated that creates journal entries for updating inventory and valuation and updates relating cost accounts. Primary accounts can easily be configured utilizing standards, so the correct general record accounts are utilized as a part of every transaction. In month-end closing process, ERP will help to develop financial statements that can help to make better business decisions. It will help to reduce errors. We can easily get the financial information what is required and that will reduce the time. External bank statements can easily be generated which can produce incoming as outgoing payments and to accommodate balance sheet. Furthermore, you can utilize a compromise engine to coordinate the due payments that are not accommodated consequently. Various reports can also be generated using Financial SAP ERP like balance sheet, profit and loss statements, b udget reports etc. (SAP Business One, 2015). Current Market Size German software designer SAP financial ERP is the worldwide leader in ERP (endeavor, planning, and resource) application programming, having market share of 40% in 2015 and yearly incomes surpassing $6 billion SAP has a lead over Microsoft and is the most well-known programming for financial solution inside this group of organization. Among multinationals SAP is the reasonable top choice, as 50% are using SAP. ERP programming sales add to around 31% of SAP's stock cost, and is the most essential driver for the organization. SAP offers ERP programming modules that serve organizations crosswise over different working groups that enables them to oversee and upgrade their assets through its items, incorporating SAP financial ERP. (Trefis Team, 2014). Competitive Advantages The main competitor of SAP ERP is NetSuite ERP. With the managing banking as well as compromise tools that are available in SAP Financial ERP, it gets easy to process all the payments that includes bank transfers, managing cash, check payment or any other bank reconciliation statement. It also helps to support automatically tax calculation and have feature to handle multicurrency transactions. Posting formats and repeating templates additionally streamline as well as improve the accounting process. (SAP Business One, 2016). Conclusions In synopsis, implementation of management information system in fabricating procedures will drive operational perfection by improving data flow and will help to remove waste crosswise over assembling, production supply chain administration as well as the service operations. Assembling associations ought to understand that advanced innovations offer them the better chance to productively interface procedures and individuals, and utilize data viably without availability gaps. They ought to likewise consider lessons learnt from the prior era of innovation organizations furthermore, avoid taking a storehouse based approach towards operational excellence. Rather, the concentrate should be on utilizing digital technology to influence data and drive operational perfection. References Blanchard, D. (2013). The stated organisation has more than 5,000 stores around 30 nations and was bought by Davids Holdings in 1988. In Australia, there are over 1400 stores. There is a mixture of both part-time and full-time employees and the company has a distinct headachy approach. The stated firm follows a hierarchy system and each of the staged has its own nature of operations. The head of the hierarchy is responsible for the overall performance of the company. After the head of the hierarchy, there are senior managers who are accountable for the general management and are also responsible for the daily operations of the company. Their responsibilities include the stock control, and to examine the overall cash of the day. After senior managers comes the full-time worker who completes the daily ta sk stated by the supervisors or the managers(Warren, Reeve and Fess, 2005). At last, there are part-time employees who come to work during daytime or during weekends. The hierarchical structure of IGA supermarket is very effective as the above stages are filled with individuals with more experience. In the recent period, IGAs disclosure regarding the huge accounting mistakes was analysed over the agreement with the suppliers that completely shuttered the retail industry in Australia as its executives have not assumed to get an error of this order. In its most recent annual reports, the management of the firm has mentioned that it is facing material risks regarding the reportage of the agilest rebates(Sebastian, 2006). The payments done in cash and the offers given by the company and those disclosures given by the auditors have more than growing importance about the supplier rebates that raise concerns regarding the organisations administrators. IGA Supermarket is among the most reputed supermarket in Australia and for maintaining this position, the stated organisation have adopted many accounting software to help the management to meet the goals and objectives and to emit the previously done mistakes in the accounting with the suppliers. The stated organisation is planning to re duce half of its carbon emissions by implementing and executing EcoSoftware from the computer associates. The IGA Supermarket is looking for the accounting software packages that could do the accounting for its daily business operations and which could be improved in the segment for the supply chain management. According to Keziere 2009, it is crucial to continue the search all over the research procedures mainly in the research and findings that could be generally examined on the grounds of other similar researches(Nikidehaghani and Hui, 2016). There have been successive growth in the field of information technology that has made an effort for acknowledging the reality of Information technology. Australian retailing companies also have to face the same issues as there was no exception to these movements(Lewis, 2014). The development of the accounting software packages took place when the Bespoke accounting software was created. As the accounting of retail business includes a lot of calculations regarding its business operations such as calculations of daily to monthly sales, customer needs, most sold items, items in stock and many other things, there is always a probability of getting an error(Nikidehaghani and Hui, 2016). Due to such high chance of getting the error in the calculations, r etail enterprises took numerous efforts to access the most advanced accounting software. After Bespoke, companies started to use other more advanced accounting software packages like Peachtree and Tally. One of the primary benefits that companies get after purchasing these accounting softwares is that they could start using it after 5-6 days of purchasing. It has been observed and noted by many researchers that many companies faced issues with this software ; mainly those which do not work on isolation. On the other hand, these accounting softwares were trusted by most of the accounting departments as maintain the computerised books of accounts is very trustworthy(Lewis, 2014). There was also a possibility of getting duplicate information regarding the retail business where the financial transactions have been already made. Accounts could be tapped by duplicated invoices as there may be errors in the software of the accounting system. All the issues lead to very difficult tasks of reconciling (Journal of Strategic Information Systems, 2008). There was a total lack of centralised systems and many data errors were also noticed which the main causes of accounting problems was. It is evident that accounts departments have their own views and perception regarding some specific process when it comes to information data among the different departments. There were three successive processes in Information Technology(Froud, Tischer and Williams, 2017). These are enterprise resource planning (ERP), enterprise application Integration (EAI) business process management (BPM). All these developments in the information technology try to assimilate the vital accounting processes into the mainstream software of the companies irrespective of its trade industry. Thus, accounting becomes the most important function of the software installed in a company(Froud, Tischer and Williams, 2017). Many studies recommend using mini ERP that only involves the accounting and finance system if the purchaser is not interested in executing the full version of the systems. Accounting and finance departments are very closely related to each other, and when a retail organisation like IGA S upermarket wants to start the accounting function like the mini ERP software, the management can easily improve the functions of the software like HR and Finance(Mohdzain and Ward, 2007). Many companies due to the stiff presence of competition have realised the importance of accounting software and are making attempt in enhancing the accounting software packages. During the early 80s, there was a great advancement in the ERP tools operating system that provides opportunity for the organisations. For providing abilities to the uniting the logic, there were systems like Oracle and SQL(Morris, 2001). There were possibilities for achieving a centralised database system for the companies like IGA Supermarket that could have implemented the pre-packaged ERPs which was available to use. In the current decade, emergence of BPM has become a very useful tool in eradicating the gaps between the different departments of the organisation. BPM advances the idea of continuous improvement with six sigma approach and the process administration(Gunasekaran and Ngai, 2011). At the starting of its launch, there were some errors in the BPM modelling but it soon was covered by the cross functional and horizontal solutions. For every business enterprise, it is always challenging to get the appropriate accounting software that can handle or manage its daily numerical transactions. It is also very challenging for companies to re-implement any software package against all odds. There will always a concern for having huge costs and rate of success will also be very low. It is better that organisations could have better options than the independent software. As for illustration, the current business enterprises save a lot of time and resources by having a centralised and consistent system that usually dont identify the reconciliations(P., Mahajan and Bulakh, 2017). Helo P., Anussornnitisarn P. Phusavat have stated that Accounting and finance mini ERP system have the most successful and trusted accounting software for the automation of any retail business or any other form of business. Conclusion The study identified that implementing ERP software is the most precise and most trusted software for the retail companies. With the implementation of the ERP software, IGA Supermarkets could improve its productivity, increase its efficiencies, decrees the costs and could also streamline the processes. The study stated that having ERP accounting software installed in the business operations could help the managers in proper planning of the companys resources. Having ERP solution eradicates the repetitive processes and also diminishes the need to manually enter the information. It helps in making the report easier and more customizable. Having improved reporting capabilities can help a firm in responding to more complex data requests more easily. It has been also found in the study that for every business enterprise, it is always challenging to get the appropriate accounting software that can handle or manage its daily numerical transactions. It is also very challenging for companies to re-implement any software package against all odds. There will always a concern for having huge costs and rate of success will also be very low. It is better that organisations could have better options than the independent software. References Ciftci, M. (2010). Accounting Choice and Earnings Quality: The Case of Software Development. Need for Ban the Tobacco Advertising in Countries

Introduction Countries should ban tobacco advertising due to its effects on the smokers and the society. Tobacco is a product of an agricultural plant that belongs to the Nicotiana genus. Many people in the world mostly use it as a cash crop and as a drug for recreational purposes.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Need for Ban the Tobacco Advertising in Countries specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The advertising of tobacco and its products involves the use of the media such as television and newspapers among other media to create awareness to the public on the product. The tobacco industry has invested many of its resources in the advertising of tobacco products. Most countries around the world do not allow tobacco advertising, and thus they ban carrying out advertising of tobacco through their laws. Historical issues of tobacco advertising In the past, tobacco use was only associated with men. Women were therefore, not taking tobacco but the trend has changed currently. Women are as equally engaged in smoking as their male counterparts are. Tobacco advertising through the media popularized in the 1990s in the developed world. Examples of countries that adopted this trend include the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and in Canada. Tobacco advertising became widespread due to the increased use of legal statements by tobacco firms and proof of tax compliance. The use of financial resources to fund the extensive advertising exercise of tobacco by the respective firms made it possible for the tobacco advertising exercise to take place and in a legal manner. Through such media, the tobacco adverts have been able to reach a very wide audience (Chapman, 2007). The media also gives a platform for campaigns against the use of tobacco, to create awareness on the negative health effects of the use of tobacco, and the unethical behavior practiced by firms in the tobacco industry. So cial issues of tobacco advertising Several researchers have developed good papers on the impact of advertising tobacco. This is due to the negative effects of tobacco use, especially on the health of individuals. Tobacco advertising is meant to attract more people and convince them to start using the product or for those who already use it, to continue using it. The advertising of tobacco has misled many young people by encouraging them to use the product, which in the long-term, is addictive. Increasingly more young people are engaging in tobacco smoking after being convinced of its goodness.Advertising Looking for research paper on advertising? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More A tobacco advert reduces the motivation and chances of the people who already smoke to quit. This is because the objective of tobacco adverts is getting more people to start smoking, and the current smokers to continue smoking or even increase their con sumption rates. For example, if a person who takes two cigarettes per day to increases consumption to six per day, cigarette-manufacturing companies profit. This has adverse effects on the health of the smokers (Napier, 1992). The advertising campaigns conducted on tobacco also acts to convince people who were previously smokers to resume the habit of smoking. This is because the adverts are flirty to the public and to the current and former smokers in order to market the product. To the young people, tobacco adverts are in line with the modern trends that the youth admire just to make them envy that lifestyle and start using the tobacco products. They encourage the youth and other people of all ages to smoke, for instance, by showing smokers who express the nice feeling that comes with the use of the tobacco to lure other people to adopt the habit, which with time becomes addictive. Young people even those below the age of eighteen years get lured to start smoking tobacco due to th e attractive adverts through billboards and the media in general (Pampel, 2009). Past research has shown that racial minorities are prone to tobacco addiction, and thus tobacco advertising will affect Blacks, Hispanics, and other racial minorities more than their white counterparts in the United States (Shalala, 1999). The society has been complaining of losing the young people to tobacco smoking. This is because increasingly more young people have engaged in tobacco use after due to influence by their friends who encourage them to use the product or after admiring tobacco use after seeing the catchy adverts through the media. Tobacco use also encourages alcohol use. This is because most of the people who engage in smoking tobacco also take alcohol. It is common knowledge that the company of smokers goes well with that of alcohol takers. Therefore, when a person starts to smoke, they find themselves in the company of those who take alcohol and with time, they engage in drinking alco hol, as both are leisure activities. Political issues of tobacco advertising Tobacco advertising has brought many debates especially to the various governments in many nations. This is because most countries have put a ban on the advertising of the tobacco products due to their negative health effects. These bans serve as measures by the various political governments to protect their people.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Need for Ban the Tobacco Advertising in Countries specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Examples of countries that have put bans on tobacco advertising include the United States (1971) through the Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act of 1966. In the year 2005, tobacco-advertising bans in Asia and Europe came up through the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control endorsed by the World Health Organization. Other political issues surrounding tobacco advertising include the governmen t regulation that warning labels be put on all tobacco products. This is to notify all smokers and the public in general on the dangers of smoking tobacco. The major aim of putting the warning labels is to ensure that any person who takes tobacco products does so willingly and in an informed manner without the possibility of them not knowing the dangers of taking the substance. One of the countries that have enforced this regulation is the United States. Technological issues of tobacco advertising Tobacco advertising mostly uses technology for reaching a wide audience. Companies therefore, apply technology by using the internet and the World Wide Web to create awareness to the audience, either of the negative or positive effects of tobacco. Other technological applications of tobacco advertising include the measurement of the environmental tobacco smoke through the use of wall and personal monitors, use of cotinine dipsticks for urine, development of new medicines to aid in curbing tobacco smoking, and finally, the use of electronic medical tracking systems for helping smokers in the process of stopping the smoking behavior. Other technological advancements related to tobacco and its advertisement include the development of the laser technology for carrying out and obliterating tobacco adverts whenever necessary, packaging technology that is used in the branding and creation of health warning labels on all tobacco products . Similarly, other technological advancements are useful in diagnosing and treating the diseases, which emanate from tobacco use. For instance, operations like surgery, radiotherapy, and telemedicine. Technology is also useful in overcoming the negative effects of smoking tobacco. This is through the introduction of the electronic cigarettes to help those who are addicted to smoking. Electronic cigarettes are also known as e-cigarettes and they were introduced to curb the effects of tobacco addiction by producing some form of a mist, tobacco flavor and some mild nicotine to make the addicts feel like they are smoking the normal tobacco. The introduction of this electronic cigarette is a measure recommended by health professionals to help the addicts deal with the problem of addiction.Advertising Looking for research paper on advertising? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Geographical issues of tobacco advertising The perception of tobacco advertising is different in different geographical regions of the world. For example, some countries have placed bans on tobacco advertising whereas others have not. In some countries, the government has not been keen on regulating the tobacco industry to the extent of putting a ban on the advertisement. Most developed countries have placed this ban whereas most underdeveloped countries have not. Other geographical issues of tobacco advertising include the putting of warning labels on the packets of cigarettes and tobacco products. These warning labels differ with their country of origin, and they are a product of a wide range of socio-cultural and political factors. This is because the language used to communicate the warning on the labels needs to be understandable to the citizens and therefore, an easy to understand and simplified language is used. This means that depending on the national language used in the p articular country, the warning labels will differ. Tobacco advertising also differs geographically depending on the competition levels in that particular country. This means that advertising may differ in regions of the world due to competition. In countries where there are many firms offering tobacco products in the same market, advertising is done on a wide scale in order to gain a favorable share of the market. For example, if three brands operate in the United States and each wants to gain a favorable share of the market for its tobacco product, the firms producing these brands conduct numerous advertisement campaigns to lure the public to take more of their product (Saunders, 2003). Tobacco advertising also affects the exportation of tobacco products from one country to another. This is due to the increased tobacco awareness, owing to the campaigns by different bodies such as the World Health Organization and the government. Countries may also ban poor quality tobacco products from exportation to other countries. This is due to health reasons, as they are of poor quality and can cause many health risks. Cultural issues of tobacco advertising Smoking has been part of people’s culture even in the past. Different cultures however smoked different things, which were not necessarily tobacco. Advertising was not much in the past days as it is presently. Due to the competition between different companies producing tobacco products, advertising has increased. Culturally, mature men were the people who were associated with smoking, and it was not common to see the youth smoking. Advertising has changed this culture as the adverts try to show that smoking is ‘cool’ (Heath, 1997). This gives the wrong idea to the young who admire smoking and they end up smoking at a young age. One big aspect that has changed in the culture of tobacco use is that in the past, women, especially African women, used tobacco by putting it in their mouth while the men put tobacco in their nostrils (Sheehan, 2004). This habit has changed a lot since today’s generation does not do that anymore. Advertising of tobacco has been more on cigarettes and thus most men and women of today smoke cigarettes. Initiation ceremonies also used tobacco as a proof of manhood, and someone had to go through initiation in order to use tobacco. This has changed greatly. Conclusion Tobacco advertising should be banned since tobacco has the following bad effects on smokers; it cuts down economic performance of the smokers, it brings poverty, it causes harm to the environment especially due to the pollution caused by smoke and it causes diseases especially cardiovascular disease. Tobacco, together with its advertising has a number of positive effects on economies and social lives of countries. The discussion above lists all the possible benefits of tobacco smoking and tobacco advertising. Some of these benefits include the fact that tobacco helps in dealing with a sthma attacks especially in the absence of inhalers, some smokers gain acceptance from others when they engage in tobacco smoking, it earns the country a lot of revenue, it induces concentration especially for addicts and it is also a stress reliever. Numerous countries practice tobacco advertising while a score of others ban the practice. From this discussion, it is vital to consider banning the practice of tobacco advertising in all countries due to the negative influence that it has on young people, its health effects and due to its ability to addict smokers. The latter is a big problem because it may cost many resources to rehabilitate addicted individuals. Reference List Chapman, S. (2007). Locutionary Act Definition in Speech-Act Theory

Locutionary Act Definition in Speech-Act Theory In speech-act theory, a locutionary act is the act of making a meaningful utterance, a stretch of spoken  language  that is preceded by silence and followed by silence or a change of  speaker- also known as a  locution or an  utterance act. The term locutionary act was introduced by British philosopher J. L. Austin in his 1962 book, How to Do Things With Words. American philosopher John Searle later replaced Austins concept of a  locutionary act with what Searle called the propositional act- the act of expressing a proposition. Searle outlined his ideas in a 1969 article titled Speech Acts: An Essay in the Philosophy of Language. Types of Locutionary  Acts Locutionary acts can be broken into two basic types: utterance acts and propositional acts.  An utterance act is a speech act that consists of the verbal employment of units of expression such as words and sentences, notes the  Glossary of Linguistic Terms. Put another way,  utterance acts are acts in which something is said (or a sound is made) that may not have any meaning, according to Speech Act Theory, a PDF published by Changing Minds.org. By contrast, propositional acts are those, as Searle noted, where a particular reference is made. Propositional acts are clear and express a specific definable point, as opposed to mere utterance acts, which may be unintelligible sounds. Illocutionary vs.  Perlocutionary Acts An illocutionary act refers to the performance of an act in saying something specific (as opposed to the general act of just saying something), notes Changing Minds, adding: The illocutionary force is the speakers intent. [It is] a true speech act such as informing, ordering, warning, undertaking. An example of an illocutionary act would be: The black cat is stupid. This statement is assertive; it is an illocutionary act in that it intends to communicate. By contrast, Changing Minds notes that perlocutionary acts are speech acts that have an effect on the feelings, thoughts, or actions of either the speaker or the listener. They seek to change minds. Unlike locutionary acts, perlocutionary acts are external to the performance; they are inspiring, persuading, or deterring. Changing Minds gives this example of a perlocutionary act: Please find the black cat. This statement is a perlocutionary act because it seeks to change behavior. (The speaker wants you to drop whatever you are doing and go find her cat.) Speech Acts With Purpose Locutionary acts may be simple utterances devoid of meaning. Searle refined the definition of locutionary acts by explaining they should be utterances that propose something, have meaning, and/or seek to persuade. Searle identified five illocutionary/perlocutionary points: Assertives: Statements that may be judged true or false because they aim to describe a state of affairs in the worldDirectives: Statements that attempt to make the other persons actions fit the propositional contentCommissives: Statements that commit the speaker to a course of action as described by the propositional contentExpressives: Statements that express the sincerity condition of the speech actDeclaratives: Statements that attempt to change the world by representing it as having been changed Locutionary acts, therefore, should not simply be  meaningless bits of speech. Instead, they should have purpose, either seeking to bolster an argument, express an opinion, or cause someone to take action. Locutionary Acts Do Have Meaning Austin, in a 1975 update of his book How to Do Things With Words, further refined the notion of locutionary acts. Explaining his theory, Austin said that locutionary acts, in and of themselves, did indeed have meaning, stating: In performing a locutionary act, we shall also be performing such an act as: Asking or answering a question; Giving some information or an assurance or a warning; Announcing a verdict or an intention; Pronouncing a sentence; Making an appointment, an appeal, or a criticism; Making an identification or giving a description. Austin argued that locutionary acts did not need further refinement into illocutionary and perlocutionary acts. Locutionary acts by definition have meaning, such as providing information, asking questions, describing something, or even announcing a verdict. Locutioinary acts are the meaningful utterances humans make to communicate their needs and wants and to persuade others to their viewpoint.

Death penalty Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Death penalty - Research Paper Example However, death penalty is given for heinous crimes and should not be wholly abolished as it will exempt the fear from the heart of criminal minded people and they will be prone to enjoy liberty in doing crimes. This paper will analyse death penalty in relation to minorities related to different class structures and races, and women on death row. Further, we will also talk about abolition of death penalty. The system of death penalty in many countries around the world is somewhat flawed as the people who are allocated to die for their crime are selected not through justice for all, but through racist motives. The people who usually get the death penalty or are placed on death row belong mostly to the minorities or poor classes of a society. In US, the African Americans and poor people usually face death penalty (Guernsey 7). The criminals who are sentenced to death are kept in special facilities called death row. These death rows are separated from the rest of the prisons (Guernsey 24). Many analysts support death penalty while others deny it altogether. The supporters find the system not racist while others regard it racist. The death penalty cases involving African American defendants are decided by white juries and attorneys who show their belief in death penalty. However, when the cases of white defendants are decided, they usually get less than death penalty. This is not the case always, but mostly the system papers racist (Guernsey 83). White population in US is the minority in terms of being punished with death penalty, however, African Americans form the greatest total of those receiving death penalty after the 17th century (Allen, et al 15). In case of analysis of gender in getting death penalty, it is quite clear that women faced lesser chances of getting death penalty than men. Prior to 1945, women out of those given death penalty were

Identify a development or industrial project or a suburban area Essay

Identify a development or industrial project or a suburban area - Essay Example The location of the project is shown in the figure below: Thinning trees is believed necessary to facilitate stand growth, enhance tree vigor and contain tree mortality due to more competition for resources among trees. However, root root (Pheilinus Weirii) was found rampant across all units and as many as 20% of the roots were found to be infected. Such diseased root stands run the risk of infecting nearby healthy trees and cause massive root decays in the adjoining areas. Further, reduced trees render the area vulnerable to winds which also aids in the transmission of the root disease to new areas. Other potential threats include increased susceptibility to forest fires and winter storms. Move to favour conifer species over Douglas fir tree types to improve plant diversity in the region (increased seed supply, improve resiliency to diseases and provide cover against diseases and insects) Analysis of the water resources is an important consideration for the present case study. It is used to assess any potential increases in new inflows, any changes in the channel morphologies, increase in turbidity and sediments. The key focal point of this issue is the Gunner lake’s drainage area which lies in the region undergoing the thinning project. The current conditions in the channel area have been a result of widespread road building and logging activities since the past 70-80 years. Once again, the focal point for the analysis of fish species and related habitat is the Gunner’s lake and its associated streams. It has been estimated that prior to human activities like rail and road construction, timber harvesting and settlement, the quality of fish habitat in the lake was far more complex and diverse and their population was much larger in comparison to current levels. The primary consideration of the section is to examine the major concerns on the soil resources in the area and analyze the effects of the proposed project (namely road building,
